April 26, 2008 HSHC holds first Microchip Clinic.
In cooperation with the town of Hamilton, the Humane Society of Harris County held its first microchip clinic at Hamilton’s Celebration of Georgia’s Cities Week festival. Almost 50 Harris County residents took advantage of the clinic and had their pets permanently identified with a microchip. The chip, which is the size of a grain of rice is inserted below the skin in the dog or cat and contains contact information in case the pet is lost or stolen. HSHC hopes to microchip 300 pets during 2008 in an effort to encourage pet owners to tag and identify their animals. This initiative called “Tag, You’re It” emphasizes that pet owners are their companions best chance to find its way home is they become separated. The Society plans on holding micro chip clinics every other month through out 2008 at their weekend adoption site at 414 US Hwy 27 in Pine Mountain. January 12, 2008 Morning Star Animal Shelter changes its’ name to Humane Society of Harris County.
On November 7, 2007, the board of directors of Morning Star Animal Shelter voted unanimously to change the name of the organization to the Humane Society of Harris County. This move was made to better reflect the broader mission of the organization and to clearly recognize the community it serves.
February 26, 2008 2nd Annual Save-the-Strays Spaghetti Dinner held at Aspen’s Mountain Grill, Pine Mountain.
For the second year Aspen’s Mountain Grill owner Mark Jones, generously hosted the Humane Society of Harris County’s Save-the-Strays Spaghetti Dinner. The evening included Mark’s famous spaghetti as well as raffles and a fantastic silent auction. The event was a great success and plans are underway for the 3rd annual in February 2009.
March 1, 2008 New Thrift Booth opens at the Pine Mountain Antique Mall benefiting the Humane Society of Harris County.
In an effort to find alternatives sources of regular income to fund the efforts of the Humane Society a group of volunteers has started a thrift booth at the Pine Mountain Antiques Mall on Hwy 27 in Pine Mountain, GA. Donations of furniture, glass ware, tableware, decorative items etc. are being accepted. Pick up is available. March 22, 2008 New Mobile Adoption Site in Pine Mountain
The Humane Society of Harris County began mobile adoptions at its’ new location at 414 Hwy 27 in Pine Mountain. The out door adoption site has been made available to the Society through the generosity of Dr. Mark Smith who owns the property. HSHC will have its’ animals available for adoption on view each Saturday from 1:00 am to 4:00 pm weather permitting.
